The 18th Annual Mississippi Economic Outlook conference will be held on Wednesday, September 28, 2011 in the IHL Board Room, located in the Universities Center, 3825 Ridgewood Road, Jackson, MS 39211. The conference will begin at 9:00 a.m. and conclude at 12:00 Noon.

State Economist Dr. Darrin Webb will open the conference. In addition to serving as the chief economist for the State of Mississippi, Dr. Webb also serves as Director of the University Research Center. He is responsible for economic forecasting and socio-economic policy analysis. He works directly with the State revenue forecasting group, serving traditionally as the chair. In this capacity, he forecasts and monitors collections of state general fund revenue.

Greg Daco, principal economist in the U.S. Macroeconomics Group at HIS Global Insight, will discuss the National Economy. In this role, he tracks and forecasts the international trade and government sectors and is responsible for IHS proprietary U.S. Leading Economic Indicator.

Senior Economist Dr. Marianne Hill will discuss the Mississippi Economy. As senior economist with the Institutions of Higher Learning, Dr. Hill has been editor of the Mississippi Economic Review and Outlook since 1990. She does the state econometric forecast, researches issues of interest to the state and contributes regularly to professional economics journals and books.

The conference will also include Insight on Five Key Sectors of Mississippi's economy. Mary Beth Wilkerson, Director of Tourism with the Mississippi Development Authority, will discuss Tourism; Marty Milstead, Executive Director of the Homebuilders Association of Mississippi, will discuss Homebuilding; Dr. Marcella McKay, Mississippi Hospital Association, will discuss healthcare; Susan Sgrignoli, General Manager of NorthPark Mall and Ridgewood Court, will discuss Retail; Jay Moon, President and CEO, Mississippi Manufacturers Association, will discuss Manufacturing.

The event is open to the public. There is no charge to attend the conference.
