Event: MTV pop icon Fonzworth Bentley, aka Derek Watkins, will deliver his “Advance Your Swagger,” message to Mississippi Valley State University and area Delta students. The event, hosted by the MVSU Men’s College, will give Bentley an opportunity to tell high school and college students that the road to success merits manners, confidence and style. Event: Mississippi Valley State University’s Institute for Effective Teaching Practices (IETP) invites teachers to participate in a professional development event, Teaching Kids about Money Makes Sense as part of the free Winter 2010 Saturday series of professional development events. Event: Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel is the guest lecturer for the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College 2010 Spring Convocation. A Nobel Peace Prize winner and Boston University professor, Wiesel has worked on behalf of oppressed people for much of his adult life.

Event: As part of the Smithsonian Institution’s Journey Stories exhibit, the Katrina Research Center at The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast will host a lecture by University of South Alabama Professor Kern Jackson which will detail the history of Mardi Gras. Following Jackson’s lecture will be a film screening of Orders of the Myth. Journey Stories is an interactive exhibit addressing migration and immigration as they relate to the American experience. The Journey Stories exhibit, which will be on display at the Katrina Research Center until March 11, is free and open to the public.
