The Mississippi Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL) will hold its regular monthly meeting Thursday, April 16, 2009, beginning at 8:00 a.m., at the Jackson Convention Complex, Theater Level—Meeting Rooms 3 and 4, 105 East Pascagoula Street, Jackson, MS, 39201. The full Board will convene at 8:00 a.m. and will then conduct business as a committee of the whole. The Board will recess for lunch at 11:00 a.m., and may resume its meeting beginning at 1:45 p.m.
Various Board committees, including Educational Policies and Programs; Budget, Finance, and Audit; Real Estate and Facilities; and Governance/Legal will meet as part of the Board meeting. An executive session may be held in accordance with the Open Meetings Act.
As part of the meeting, the Board will approve degrees to be conferred in May and review continued accreditation status of nursing degree programs. Assistant Commissioner for Governmental Relations Dr. Jim Borsig will provide an update on the 2009 Legislative Session, and outgoing Board President Amy Whitten will pass the gavel to incoming Board President Scott Ross.
Under the leadership of the Board of Trustees, IHL governs the public universities in Mississippi, including Alcorn State University; Delta State University; Jackson State University; Mississippi State University including the Mississippi State University Division of Agriculture, Forestry and Veterinary Medicine; Mississippi University for Women; Mississippi Valley State University; the University of Mississippi including the University of Mississippi Medical Center; and the University of Southern Mississippi.
