BOARD TO HOLD REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING FEBRUARY 18 AND 19

The Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL) will hold various committee meetings on Wednesday, February 18, 2009. An executive session may be held in accordance with the Open Meetings Act for the committee meetings listed below, which will all be held on the campus of Jackson State University (JSU) in the JSU Student Center, 3rd Floor-Ballroom B, 1400 John R. Lynch Street, Jackson, MS, 39217. Committee meeting start times are approximate as committee meetings will begin following the conclusion of the preceding committee meeting.

  • A meeting of the Budget, Finance, and Audit Committee, chaired by Trustee Aubrey Patterson, will begin at 2:00 p.m. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss items on the Budget, Finance, and Audit agenda.
  • A meeting of the Educational Policies and Programs Committee, chaired by Trustee Bettye Neely, will begin at approximately 2:30 p.m. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss items on the Educational Policies and Programs agenda and receive a report from GEAR-UP Mississippi.
  • A meeting of the Real Estate and Facilities Committee, chaired by Trustee Scott Ross, will begin at approximately 3:00 p.m. The purpose of the meeting is to review items on the Real Estate and Facilities agenda; receive an update on the Mississippi State University Cotton Mills Marketplace development; receive a report on residence hall and fraternity house fire sprinklers; and receive an update on the Alcorn State University privatized housing project.

The Board will hold its regular monthly meeting on Thursday, February 19, 2009, beginning at 8:30 a.m., also in the JSU Student Center as listed above. The full Board will convene at 8:30 a.m. and will then conduct business as a committee of the whole. Various Board committees, including Educational Policies and Programs; Budget, Finance, and Audit; Real Estate and Facilities; and Governance/Legal will meet as part of the Board meeting. The Board will also receive an update on its progress on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, as well as its annual Black History Month presentation. It will also honor the institutional recipients of its annual 2008 Best Practices competition.

An executive session may be held in accordance with the Open Meetings Act. The Board meeting will be available for real-time viewing via live webcast on the IHL website, www.mississippi.edu/ihl.

Under the leadership of the Board of Trustees, IHL governs the public universities in Mississippi, including Alcorn State University; Delta State University; Jackson State University; Mississippi State University including the Mississippi State University Division of Agriculture, Forestry and Veterinary Medicine; Mississippi University for Women; Mississippi Valley State University; the University of Mississippi including the University of Mississippi Medical Center; and the University of Southern Mississippi.
