BOARD TO HOLD REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING JANUARY 14 AND 15

The Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL) will hold various committee meetings on Wednesday, January 14, 2009. An executive session may be held in accordance with the Open Meetings Act for the committee meetings listed below, which will all be held in the IHL Board Room in the Universities Center, 3825 Ridgewood Road, Jackson, MS, 39211. Committee meeting start times are approximate as committee meetings will begin following the conclusion of the preceding committee meeting.

  • A meeting of the Governance/Legal Committee, chaired by Trustee Bob Owens, will begin at 1:30 p.m. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss items on the Governance/Legal agenda.
  • A meeting of the Real Estate and Facilities Committee, chaired by Trustee Scott Ross, will begin at approximately 2:30 p.m. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss items on the Real Estate and Facilitates agenda, the Alcorn housing project, legislation on privately developed university projects, and the federal economic stimulus package.
  • A meeting of the Educational Policies and Programs Committee, chaired by Trustee Bettye Neely, will begin at approximately 3:00 p.m. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss items on the Educational Policies and Programs agenda as well as receive updates from the IHL Assistant Commissioner of Community and Junior College Relations and the America Reads Mississippi program.

The Board will hold its regular monthly meeting on Thursday, January 15, 2009, beginning at 8:30 a.m., in the IHL Board Room in the Universities Center, 3825 Ridgewood Road, Jackson, MS, 39211. The full Board will convene at 8:30 a.m. and will then conduct business as a committee of the whole. Various Board committees, including Educational Policies and Programs; Budget, Finance, and Audit; Real Estate and Facilities; and Governance/Legal, will meet as part of the Board meeting. The Board will also receive an update on System strategic goals, including efficiencies and effectiveness, from Deputy Commissioner of Finance and Administration Dr. Linda McFall and Assistant Commissioner of Academic and Student Affairs Dr. Lynn House.

An executive session may be held in accordance with the Open Meetings Act. The Thursday Board meeting will be available for real-time viewing via live webcast on the IHL website, www.mississippi.edu/ihl.

Under the leadership of the Board of Trustees, IHL governs the public universities in Mississippi, including Alcorn State University; Delta State University; Jackson State University; Mississippi State University including the Mississippi State University Division of Agriculture, Forestry and Veterinary Medicine; Mississippi University for Women; Mississippi Valley State University; the University of Mississippi including the University of Mississippi Medical Center; and the University of Southern Mississippi.
