During its emergency teleconference meeting today, the Mississippi Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL) met to discuss one Mississippi State University personnel matter and one related IHL personnel matter. As a result of the meeting, the Board accepted and approved Commissioner of Higher Education Dr. Thomas C. Meredith’s request to voluntary step aside from his day-to-day duties during the State Auditor’s investigation. Board President Amy Whitten will assume the Commissioner’s responsibilities until the issue is resolved. No action was taken with regard to the Mississippi State University personnel matter.
The Mississippi Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning governs the public universities in Mississippi, including Alcorn State University; Delta State University; Jackson State University; Mississippi State University including the Mississippi State University Division of Agriculture, Forestry and Veterinary Medicine; Mississippi University for Women; Mississippi Valley State University; the University of Mississippi including the University of Mississippi Medical Center; and the University of Southern Mississippi.
