SUSAN PARKINSON LEE NAMED DIRECTOR OF P-16 INITIATIVES

The Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL) is pleased to announce that Susan Parkinson Lee, former director of field experiences at Delta State University, has accepted the position of director of P-16 initiatives in the IHL Office of Academic and Student Affairs.

“We are very eager to have Susan join our academic team,” said Dr. Lynn House, assistant commissioner of academic and student affairs. “Susan brings a wealth of knowledge, commitment, and a proven record of leadership and experience that will enable us to work with public school districts, community and junior colleges, and senior institutions to make our schools stronger so Mississippi children can compete on a global level.”

As director of P-16 initiatives, Lee will provide advice and counsel to the assistant commissioner for academic and student affairs on long-range plans related to undergraduate and graduate teacher and administrator education as well as other P-16 (pre-kindergarten through university) initiatives. She will oversee delivery key operational services related to IHL’s teacher and administrator preparation programs and P-16 initiatives in order to ensure achievement of the System’s strategic goals and mission. Her duties also include providing leadership for the development, interpretation, and implementation of System-wide academic policies. As director, Lee will work closely with the System provosts; vice presidents of academic affairs; deans of education; leaders of other segments of higher education in Mississippi and across the nation, including P-12 representatives; state and federal policymakers; and others.

Lee earned her educational specialist degree in administration and supervision and master of education degree in curriculum and supervision from Delta State University and bachelor of science in elementary education from Mississippi State University.

Prior to joining IHL, Lee worked as director of field experiences at Delta State University. Other work experiences include serving as coordinator for the Center for Teaching and Learning at Delta State University; technology coordinator and elementary and secondary school teacher in the Indianola School District; private piano instructor for the Indianola Academy; and elementary school teacher in the Grenada School District.
