BOARD NAMES DR. MALVIN WILLIAMS INTERIM PRESIDENT OF ALCORN STATE

During an emergency teleconference this evening, the Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning announced that Dr. Malvin Williams, former Alcorn State Provost, will serve as Interim President of Alcorn State University, following the sudden death of President Clinton Bristow, Jr. on Saturday evening, August 19. Dr. Williams will assume the interim position immediately. The timeline of the search process for a permanent replacement will be announced shortly.

Dr. Malvin Williams served nearly his entire working career at Alcorn State University,” said Commissioner of Higher Education Dr. Thomas C. Meredith. “He is committed to the vision of the institution and will effectively guide the University until a permanent president is announced.

Under the leadership of the Board of Trustees, IHL governs the public universities in Mississippi, including Alcorn State University; Delta State University; Jackson State University; Mississippi State University including the Mississippi State University Division of Agriculture, Forestry and Veterinary Medicine; Mississippi University for Women; Mississippi Valley State University; the University of Mississippi including the University of Mississippi Medical Center; and the University of Southern Mississippi.
