BOARD TO HONOR BLACK HISTORY MONTH EDUCATORS, FORMER TRUSTEES

The Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL), in its regular monthly meeting next Wednesday and Thursday, March 15 and 16, 2006, in the Board Room of the Universities Center, 3825 Ridgewood Road, Jackson, MS, will honor African-American educators from each of the universities in recognition of February as Black History Month, as well as a Board-chosen community honoree. Additionally, former members of the Board of Trustees will be recognized commemorating their service to the state, and University Best Practices will be announced.

The full Board will convene Wednesday, March 15, at 1:30 p.m. Various Board committee meetings, including Educational Policies and Programs; Budget; Finance and Audit; Real Estate and Facilities; Legal; and Administration and Policy will meet as part of the Board meeting. The Board meeting will continue Thursday, March 16, with the full Board convening at 8:30 a.m. The Mississippi State University Presidential Search Committee will also convene Thursday, March 16, as part of the Board meeting.

An Executive Session may be held in accordance with the Open Meetings Act.

Under the leadership of the Board of Trustees, IHL governs the public universities in Mississippi, including Alcorn State University; Delta State University; Jackson State University; Mississippi State University including the Mississippi State University Division of Agriculture, Forestry and Veterinary Medicine; Mississippi University for Women; Mississippi Valley State University; the University of Mississippi including the University of Mississippi Medical Center; and the University of Southern Mississippi.
