GOVERNOR PHIL BRYANT RECEIVES PLAQUE OF APPRECIATION AT ANNUAL HEADWAE LUNCHEON

Outstanding students and faculty members from 34 Mississippi public and private universities and colleges were honored at the annual HEADWAE program, held yesterday in Jackson. Higher Education Appreciation Day-Working for Academic Excellence (HEADWAE) was established by legislative resolution to honor individual academic achievement and the overall contribution of the state's public and private institutions of higher learning.

Governor Phil Bryant delivered the keynote address at the luncheon and received a plaque from the Mississippi Association of Colleges and Universities and the HEADWAE Steering Committee recognizing his support of the program.

The plaque reads:

Governor Bryant has led Mississippi in implementing transformational public education reforms, promoting economic development and building a competitive business climate that attracts major employers like Yokohama Tire Corporation and Continental Tire. Under Governor Bryant's administration, more than 60,000 jobs have been announced, and unemployment has reached record lows.

The honorees began the day with a visit to the State Capitol where they were greeted by Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann, recognized by the Senate and House of Representatives and given a tour of the Capitol. At the awards luncheon, each honoree was received an award recognizing their excellence and accomplishments in the classroom and beyond.
