TEDXJACKSON BRINGS IDEAS TO FERTILE GROUND OF MISSISSIPPI

11/3/2014 - Jackson, Miss.

TEDxJackson, an independently organized event, will bring "Ideas Worth Spreading" to the "Fertile Ground" of Mississippi on Thursday, November 6 with a day of inspiring speakers from Mississippi and beyond. While the event will be held in the Capri Theater in Jackson, it will be livestreamed so citizens across the state can participate.

With a focus on education, health and the creative economy, TEDx Jackson's theme of "Fertile Ground" is a reflection of great promise and untapped potential that exists in Jackson and throughout the state. TED is an annual event where some of the world's leading thinkers and doers are invited to share what they are most passionate about. "TED" stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design - three broad subject areas that are, collectively, shaping our future.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x=independently organized TED event.

Among the speakers is Dr. Kristi Henderson, Chief Advanced Practice Officer and Director of the Telehealth Program for the University of Mississippi Medical Center. She will give a presentation on the telehealth program. Dr. Henderson spearheaded UMMC's statewide TelEmergency program, which connects 14 rural hospitals to emergency physicians via a telemedicine system. She maintains her clinical practice as a family and acute care nurse practitioner within the UMMC department of emergency medicine and also serves as an associate professor in the School of Nursing.
